What is a crochet pattern tester?

A crochet pattern tester is someone who tests crochet patterns for accuracy before the pattern becomes published. They provide feedback to the designer regarding instructions, stitch counts, typos, errors, and if the pattern actually works. I will often check my pattern multiple times but find that I have overlooked some details. It’s very helpful to get another fresh pair of eyes to check on the pattern.

You don’t need to be a professional to be a pattern tester. I’m looking for crocheters who are passionate about crocheting, specifically making amigurumi. Of course, it also gives me an idea if my patterns are accurate, complete and if they make sense. Plus, as a tester, you get a free pattern before it gets released to the public!

Follow me on Instagram and never miss out on upcoming and new pattern announcements.

So how do you become a pattern tester?

Click on the link below and it will take you to an application form. The form will give me an idea of your crochet skills, experience and of course your contact details so I can get in touch with you if you’re selected. You can also follow me on Instagram to see what new amigurumi designs I’ve posted. You may be interested in testing that particular pattern. When I finish a project that’s ready for testing, I will review all submitted applications and contact you should you become a potential tester. Please understand though, that I cannot contact all testers. I may only need 2 or 3 testers. If you don’t get selected, please don’t be discouraged. I love to crochet and I also love designing so you may be selected as a tester for my next pattern. I will select testers that match the skill level of the pattern being tested. Don’t worry if you’re not a super experienced crocheter! I want to make sure that my pattern makes sense to you and that it works. To give you an idea, most of my patterns are beginner friendly.

When you are selected as a pattern tester, a formal agreement will be sent via email that both parties must agree upon before the testing can begin. Some requirements are:

  • Must have knowledge of basic crochet stitches, experience reading crochet and amigurumi patterns, and understand crochet terms written in US terminology.
  • Must be responsible for using their own tools and materials (e.g. yarn, hooks, toy stuffing, etc.) to complete the item.
  • Attention to detail. Check pattern thoroughly for errors (spelling, stitch count) and accuracy, and provide feedback in a timely manner.
  • Meet deadlines. Must be able to complete testing by due date.
  • Be passionate about crochet!

Please understand that there will be no payment in the form of money from being a pattern tester, it is voluntary. By being a pattern tester, you will receive the final version of the pattern that you have tested. As a thank you for your support and assistance, you can also pick a pattern of your choice to keep. If this is something you’re interested in and you meet the above requirements, click on the form below to apply to become a pattern tester.
