Remington the Mouse

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and a fantastic start to the new year! We had a lovely break, mostly spending lots of time with family. We visited the zoo (my little boy’s first time) and we attended a Lego exhibition which was a fun hands on experience for the kids. It’s currently summer here in Australia and the weather is very hot in some areas.  We went for a swim at our local pool which has a nice “wave” feature and the kids absolutely loved it! The wave in the pool simulates waves at the beach. I enjoyed it too!

This year is going to be another busy year for Hello Yellow Yarn – it’s going to be exciting and there will be some patterns featured in a couple of books!  I will definitely announce them when the time nears.

I’ve been busily working on this cute little mouse that my boy happily named Remington. I’m very proud with how this little mouse turned out. I had to re-work him as in my original design the mouse was a little bigger and he looked more rat-like. I changed the hook size and gave him a more rounder body, smaller snout and more mouse like ears. Remington’s pattern is now available at Etsy and Craftsy if you would like to make him.

I wanted to give him cheese just in case he gets hungry! 😀 Oh boy, that cheese took me a while to make.  For something very simple! I wanted to make sure that it would be easy to make without having to sew too many pieces together.  He looks absolutely adorable with the cheese!

This pattern has a Beginner/Easy skill level. You will need to know how to make a magic ring/circle, crochet in spirals, crochet in rows, chain, single crochet, colour change, increase and invisible decrease. You will also need to know very basic sewing technique, in this case whipstitching.

I used a 3mm hook and 8 ply acrylic yarn to make Remington and he measured about 20cm (8 inches) tall.

To make Remington the Mouse and his little cheese, you will need:

  • 3mm crochet hook
  • 8 ply Acrylic yarn in Grey at least 75g (202m/220yds)
  • 8 ply Acrylic yarn in Pink at least 15g (40m/44yds)
  • 8 ply Acrylic yarn in Yellow at least 15g (40m/44yds)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Polyester toy stuffing
  • 2x 12mm plastic safety eyes
  • Sewing pins
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Pattern is now available at Etsy and Craftsy. I hope you enjoy crocheting Remington! I would love to see a picture of the finished mouse – post a picture on instagram and tag me @maryjcarlos (or #helloyellowyarn) or post on my Facebook page.

Happy crocheting!
