Aren’t these mini baskets cute?! Here’s a super fun, quick and easy project for this easter to make for the little ones. I’ve been very busy working on other projects, mainly re-stocking my store and working on new bunnies and teddy bears that will be made to order. I managed to squeeze these in between projects.
The basket can fit about 6 mini chocolate eggs or 1 plastic egg (fill it with jelly beans or more chocolates!). I made four baskets in 2 different neutral colours and filled them with mini chocolates eggs. The tricky part now is hiding the chocolates from my kids before Easter!
One basket is a breeze to make – it takes about 15-20 minutes to make, more or less depending on your speed and skill level. You could whip up a few baskets and they will make great gifts to surprise the little ones if you’re having a gathering of family and friends this Easter.
Gather:
1 x 8 ply (US Light Worsted UK DK) acrylic yarn ball in your choice of colour/s
4mm (US 6 UK 8) crochet hook
Scissors
Yarn needle
Satin ribbon
Abbreviations I used for below tutorial (US Terminology):
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sts – stitches
This is a small project so I have made this into a step by step picture tutorial but I have also written the pattern below. This project is also suitable for those with basic crochet skills.
**Note** You will be working in joined rounds. Begin each round with a ch 2 (not counted as a stitch) and ending each round with a sl st to top of ch 2.
Rnd 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 2 then work 12 dc’s in the magic ring. Join with a sl st to top of ch 2. (12 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 2. Work 2 dc’s in each stitch around. Join with a sl st to top of ch 2. (24 sts)
Rnds 3 – 5: Ch 2. 1 dc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st to top of ch 2. (24 sts). Do not fasten off just yet.
At the end of Rnd 5, ch 25. Skip 1st ch from hook and work 1 hdc in next 24 ch sts. Sl st to 1st dc from Rnd 5. Fasten off and hide tail. Stitch other end of handle directly across the opposite end of the basket.
You can also follow below steps to make the basket:
To begin Round 1, make a magic ring and chain 2. Proceed to work 12 dc’s in the magic ring. Pull the loose tail end to bring the stitches in then join with a slip stitch to the top of ch 2. There should be 12 stitches for Round 1.
For Round 2, begin with chain 2. Starting from the 1st dc from previous round, work 2 dc’s in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to top of chain 2. Round 2 should have 24 stitches.
For Rounds 3 – 5, work 1 dc in each stitch around. Don’t forget to always start your rounds with chain 2 and end your rounds with a slip stitch to the top of chain 2. At the end of Round 5, chain 25. Skip 1st ch from hook and work 1 hdc in next 24 ch sts.
When you get to the end of the chain, slip stitch to the 1st dc from Round 5. Fasten off and hide tail. Fold the basket in half making sure the handle is in the centre. Bring the other end of the handle (make sure it’s not twisted) across to the opposite side and sew the end of the handle to the stitches using a small amount of yarn.
Once the handle has been stitched on, secure the ends with a tight knot and snip off excess yarn and hide tails. Finish off by tying a ribbon onto the bottom of the handle.

Wow these look brill I’m going g to try and make some too late for this year now .I normal make novelty eggs to sell on the ward (for fundraising),but think if I can master the art of crochet these will be a change .
