Hello everyone! Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great Christmas and a fantastic start to the new year.
I am due to go back to work next week after a few weeks of leave. It was a rather terrible start to the new year for me however. I was struck down with possibly the most painful tonsillitis I have ever had in years! I’m a lot better now but still on antibiotics for a few more days.
So what did I do at home whilst I was nursing that horrible sore throat? Crochet of course! I made some dolls and these cupcakes for my kids to add to their play food collection.
Cupcake play food that looks good enough to eat! I love how the layers are really visible on this pattern just like you would see on a cupcake.
Have fun making this cake. It’s very easy to make and you can use whatever colours you like. After all, cupcakes come in all different flavours.

Assembly – Using a running stitch method, sew the frosting onto the top of the cake. Next, sew the raspberry onto the top of the frosting and cake. Sew together the cake and the cup/base using a whip stitch method (sew together from back loops to front loops). Stuff with toy stuffing and continue to sew shut.
Tip: As above photo: Sew the frosting on top of the cake (make sure it’s in the centre) with a running stitch method under each crochet stitch.
Tip: When sewing the cake onto the base/cup, use a whip stitch method. Make sure to use the long tail from the cup not the cake. Stitch from back loop to front loop.
My little girl posed the dolls with the cupcakes! I’ll be honest, I helped her and I had fun too! I get so much joy when I see my kids enjoying the little play food toys I make for them.
These make great gifts too for kids who enjoy play food. You can make a dozen with different colours.
Until next time 🙂
