PATTERN NOTES
This donut was made in two parts – each part starting with chains followed by continuous single crochet rounds and stitched together using a whipstitch method.
Finished donut measures approximately 7.5cm (3inches) in diameter. Any variations to hook size and yarn weight will result in a different sized donut.
DONUT – PART 1
Use colour A.
Start with a long tail and chain 15. Join to the first ch from the hook with a single crochet.
Rnd 1: sc around (15 sts)
Rnd 2: inc every 3rd st (20 sts)
Rnd 3: inc every 4th st (25 sts)
Rnd 4: inc every 5th st (30 sts)
Rnd 5: inc every 6th st (35 sts)
Rnd 6 – 7: sc around (35 sts)
Sl st, f/o and leave a long tail for sewing.
DONUT – PART 2
Use colour B.
Do the same as Part 1 although you don’t need to leave a long tail for both ends.
ASSEMBLY
Flip both donut parts inside out. Insert the tail end from the inner ring of Part 1 into your yarn needle and align to the inner ring of Part 2. Begin to whipstitch both parts together and when you’ve reached the end, secure with a tight knot. Snip off excess yarn.
Turn the donuts back to the correct side and using the long tail end from Part 1, begin to whipstitch the donut together. For this particular whipstitch method, insert the needle under both loops from Part 1 then insert the needle under the front loop from Part 2. Continue to stitch together and fill with toy stuffing as you go. Do not over fill. Finally, when you have finished filling and stitching the donut, make sure to hide all the yarn ends.
Donut is now ready! Make as many and in different colours as you like. Create sprinkles by stitching different coloured yarn in an uneven pattern on top of the donut. Or make a chocolate swirl and use fabric glue to glue on top of the donut.
Don’t want to use this as play food? No problem. You can use this item as a pin cushion or glue a strip of magnet to the back and it instantly becomes a fridge magnet. Voila!

I am so glad I saw this & thank you for making it available!!! I am going to make 2 & add a bell inside. My cat had something like this, but not as pretty & it had a bell inside. He would carry it with him everywhere but one day he lost it & he has looked & cried for it ever since.
Phantastische Sachen hier, vielen Dank!
Super cute and I love the idea of play food like this for the grandkids.

What a cute pattern! I hope you don’t mind that I’ve added it into the Ravelry database so that it’s easier for others to find: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crochet-donuts
Love these! Especially the one with the rainbow sprinkles! Thanks for sharing! 🙂 Lisa
Thank you. Easy and so cute. Our little baker will love them.
I can’t wait to try these cute donuts. I would like to make them bigger for cushions… do you have a pattern for larger ones??
Hi. No, just the play food size 🙂
Thank you very much for nice pattern….I’m so loved it. God bless you.
Hi there. I love this pattern! I made a few simple adjustments to it to make a slightly larger donut (a longer chain to start with, plus an extra round of increases) – would it be ok for me to sell these? Happy to give credit to the original pattern.
P.S. to clarify, I mean would it be ok to sell the finished product, not the pattern.
Thanks so much for this fun pattern! I really enjoyed making it.
