The Cutest Little Crochet Ghost

Spooky season is near! Why was the ghost embarrassed? Because he had a boo-ger!

Although Halloween is not a major event where I’m from in Sydney, Australia, it’s quite popular and fun amongst many young people. There are still children that will participate in trick or treating but it’s mostly done in the afternoon rather than night time. I think it’s because it’s during the Spring time here, the weather is beginning to warm up and the insects are coming out of their hiding spots!

One thing I love about Halloween is designing cute spooky theme amigurumi. Like this tiny ghost! Doesn’t it just look so adorable with the tiny hat?! This was so fun to make, especially sewing the sleeves on because you can pose the sleeves however you like. It gives them their little personalities.

TINY GHOST AMIGURUMI

You will need:

3.5mm crochet hook
8ply (DK/Light Worsted) yarn in White and Grey
Small amount of Pink yarn for the blush
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch marker
Toy stuffing
A pair of 6mm plastic safety eyes

Skill: Beginner

Size: Approx. 8 cm (3 in.) tall, with hat on.

Pattern Notes:

US Crochet Terminology.
You’ll need to know how to make a magic ring/circle.
You will be crocheting in continuous rounds.
The hat is a separate piece but can be sewed on if preferred.
Ch 2 on round 8 of the hat is not counted as a stitch.
Basic embroidery and sewing skills is required.

ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
inc – single crochet increase (2 sc in one stitch)
dec – single crochet decrease (sc 2 together)
BLO – back loops only
st/sts – stitch/stitches
rep – repeat

GHOST (in White yarn)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6 sts)
Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (12 sts)
Rnd 3: Sc 1, inc; rep 6 times (18 sts)
Rnd 4: Sc 2, inc; rep 6 times (24 sts)
Rnd 5: Sc around (24 sts)
Rnd 6: Sc 7, inc; rep 3 times (27 sts)
Rnd 7: Sc around (27 sts)
Rnd 8: Sc 8, inc; rep 3 times (30 sts)
Rnd 9: Sc around (30 sts)
Rnd 10: Sc 9, inc; rep 3 times (33 sts)
Rnd 11: Sc around (33 sts)
Rnd 12: Sc 10, inc; rep 3 times (36 sts)
Rnd 13: Sc around (36 sts)
Rnd 14: Sc 11, inc; rep 3 times (39 sts)
Rnd 15: Sc around (39 sts)
Rnd 16: Sc 12, inc; rep 3 times (42 sts)
Rnds 17 – 20: Sc around (42 sts)
Attach safety eyes between Rounds 7 and 8, approximately 4 stitches apart.
Rnd 21: BLO sc 5, dec; rep 6 times (36 sts)
Rnd 22: Sc 4, dec; rep 6 times (30 sts)
Rnd 23: Sc 3, dec; rep 6 times (24 sts)
Lightly fill with stuffing, using just enough to hold its shape. Do not overstuff.
Rnd 24: Sc 2, dec; rep 6 times (18 sts)
Rnd 25: Sc 1, dec; rep 6 times (12 sts)
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining stitches and pull the tail gently to close. Using the same tail, add small indents to shape the ghost. Bring the needle out through a stitch hole on the front of the ghost, about 4 rounds from the bottom, then insert the needle into the stitch hole directly beside it and bring out the needle at the back of the ghost. Pull the yarn tight. This should create an indent. Repeat these steps for the back and sides of the ghost. Weave in and secure the tail.

SLEEVE (in White yarn, make 2)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6 sts)
Rnds 2 – 5: Sc around (6 sts)
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Sew the top of the sleeve close. Sew the sleeves to the side of the ghost’s body, positioning them in your preferred pose.

HAT (in Grey yarn)
If you prefer to sew the hat onto the ghost’s head, begin with a long starting tail when making the magic ring. Use that tail to stitch the hat in place.

Rnd 1: 8 sc in a magic ring (8 sts)
Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (16 sts)
Rnd 3: Sc 1, inc; rep 8 times (24 sts)
Rnds 4 – 7: Sc around (24 sts)
Rnd 8: Ch 2. Dc around (24 sts)
Slip stitch to the top of 1st dc stitch. Fasten off and weave in the tail. Flip the bottom part of the hat upwards.

Lastly, use pink yarn to sew 2 horizontal stitches, 1 stitch wide, below each eye to make the blush.
