Here is Harvey Hippo! He’s a super friendly Safari tour guide. He loves the great outdoors and going on exciting adventures! His pattern is now available to download in my Etsy store.
I wanted to release the pattern earlier but my whole family, including me, came down with the flu for a couple of weeks and then I became busy with other requests. All is well now.
Harvey is the 3rd amigurumi animal from my Safari series. You can check the other animals from the series – Professor Elbert the Elephant and Graceful Gemma Giraffe.
The pattern is suitable for beginners and very easy to put together. A knowledge of magic ring/circle and whipstitch sewing is required.
I used a 4.5mm hook and 8 ply yarn to crochet Harvey Hippo and the finished hippo measured about 41cm (16 inches) from top to bottom. He is actually bigger than Professor Elbert Elephant! I think I must have had a loose tension or super relaxed tension when I made Harvey. I used the same weight yarn for all the safari animals.
For this project, you will need:
- 4.5mm crochet hook
- 1 x 8 ply yarn ball – at least 300m (328 yds) in Blue Grey
- 1 x 8 ply yarn ball in Light Beige
- Small amount of Dark Grey yarn/cotton thread
- Small amount of Dark Brown yarn/cotton thread
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- 2 x 14mm plastic safety eyes
- Brown felt
- Glue gun
- Stitch marker (optional)
- Pins (optional)
Pattern available at Etsy.
If you make Harvey Hippo, I would love to see him – post a picture on instagram and tag me @maryjcarlos (or #helloyellowyarn) or post on my Facebook page.
Happy crocheting!
